MOVING IMAGE

Creativity & Innovation

From taking over Manhattan billboards to nurturing digital artists, Leo Crane is a creative producer, artist, and educator with his finger on the pulse of where fine art meets digital technology.
— TEMPUS MAGAZINE, 10th anniversary edition

Leo is an early adopter of digital technology. He coded his first game on a BBC Micro in 1989 (aged just 12) and went on to graduate with an MA Distinction from the UK’s National Centre for Computer Animation at Bournemouth University. Alongside this, he studied figurative art, working from life in charcoal, watercolour and oil. He now combines these digital and traditional approaches to create a distinctive style of moving image.

The projects below were conceived as infinite loops to display in a gallery setting. He also produces narrative films using similar techniques in charcoal, watercolour and ink. Leo is supported by MuseFrame to ensure his works are displayed on high-quality digital art frames.

Leo regularly writes and speaks on digital strategies in the art world, leading courses at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, V&A, WIRED and many others.
